KUSIMAYO PROGRAMS WARM CLEAN HOUSE
Warm Clean House provides families with the tools needed to face low temperatures and eliminate indoor air pollution caused by smoke. It helps reduce respiratory diseases linked to smoke inhalation and extreme cold, especially in children and senior citizens. Since 2013, 1232 homes have been equipped.
Existing homes are equipped with three technologies:
A. Solar wall:
a wooden structure similar to a soccer goal, covered with polycarbonate and strategically placed to capture as much heat from the sun as possible during the day. This heat is transferred into the home through PVC tubes, providing a warmer environment for families.
B. Thermal insulation:
doors and windows are replaced when necessary, holes and cracks are sealed, and an internal false ceiling made of burlap covered with rubber and lime is installed. This makes the home as airtight as possible, allowing heat to be retained.
C. Improved cookstove:
made of adobe, with a metal plate and a chimney. It uses the available fuel (firewood or animal dung).
Results:
- Indoor temperature increases by up to 10°C
- 90% reduction of indoor air pollution
- Improved health, wellbeing and quality of life
